"I could relate": New Leadership Journey module puts Allyship in the spotlight
The sixth module in our ongoing Leadership Journey focuses on Allyship. From learning how to spot inequities and recognize our own biases, to being able to identify and use our privileges to be an ally to others, the newly developed module explores strategies and paths for making Beckers a more inclusive, more engaging workplace.
Uptake for the module has been strong, with 230 colleagues signing up for the sessions, which provided a constructive forum for conversations all too often avoided or tiptoed around. This point was underlined by the many insightful and emotionally resonant contributions from participants.
Allyship is a key Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI) topic, and is embedded in the People Stream of our 2030 Sustainability Strategy. The enthusiasm shown by colleagues reflects a keen interest to learn, to grow, and to contribute to a positive, equitable workplace.
Connie Du Toit, a Procurement Manager at Beckers, was among those who completed the training. Her feedback, which with her permission we are sharing here, is personal yet representative of experiences other participants have reported.
